Configure a Client

Clients and Sites in Hydden are two concepts working together providing users modularity when running data collections for distributed networks.

After a client is deployed and registered, sites play an important role in where the data is collected based on network specifics, such as geo regions or network segments for different locations or business units.

If the Site and/or Modules data isn’t specified during the Client Registration process or the data needs to change, users may configure the data on the Clients page.

  1. Navigate to Configuration | Discover | Clients.
  2. From the table choose the client with missing or outdated data and click the Edit button (refer to the red box in the above image).
  3. On the Edit Client modal, add or edit the Site information, and add or remove any of the Modules.
  4. Click Update.

What are Sites

Sites are identifying the networked locations of the system running the Hydden Client. The site name usually matches the friendly name of your networked system, for example, azure.cloud.us.east or aws.eu.de.

The client configuration can omit specifying a site. Data collections can run without site settings and work solely based on the configured modules.

What are Modules

Modules are primarily Collectors for the different directory services, but can also be for platforms, like Slack Integration, Dashboard, etc. For a full list of all Modules available refer to Modules.

Advanced Client Configuration

Hydden has advanced client configuration options. Those are currently part of the general view on the add/edit client modal and will be moved to a different view soon. As long as they are under the general view, Hydden recommends not to change the configuration without consulting Hydden Support first, or unless told otherwise by Hydden Support.

What are Connection Targets

Connection Targets are used for Advanced Broker Configuration. Change the Connection Targets setting only if Hydden personnel advises you to do so.

Advertise (internal)

Configure the host names or IP addresses other clients will use to connect to this client within your site. Use Advertise (internal) if you run specific Hydden framework components on your client so that other Hydden components can communicate with this specific client.

Advertise (external)

Configure the host names or IP addresses that other clients will use to connect to this client from a different site. This can be used if you run specific Hydden framework components on your client so that other Hydden components can communicate with this specific client.
